Last week, I spent a day at the Maritime Museum in Hamburg. The top floor houses a mouth watering collection of over 55,000 models ships in 1:1250 scale. Plus, several enormous dioramas which have to be seen to be believed.

The museum was very quiet with few visitors at this time of year so I got the chance to look around the model workshop and pick up a few tips. Browsing the bookshop on the ground floor, I discovered many boxes and cabinets of second hand models, mainly Wiking, on sale for between 1 and 10 euros each. The lady at the sales desk was really helpful and I came away with a nice little stash.
