I'm not saying they are ineffective - only that they are relatively easily shot down. If you have a limited number (by how many can be on the drone carrier) of low-performance drones attacking a point target with ample state of the art ECM, missile and gun defences, like a US carrier group, they wouldn't be likely to get through.

But, across a large theatre, air defence can't be everywhere and doesn't have a limitless supply of missiles. In Ukraine and Russia, the drones get through the gaps in air defences and nobody mourns the pilots of the many UAVs that don't make it. At the same time, they create a distraction and soak up air defences so more missiles get through.
