I think the absence of another deck number is a marketing decision. The second Hyuga kit I have lacks a number too. I think having a single number for the 'name ship' of a class gives F Toys some flexibility in the way these are sold. Apart from the name ship, number they will never runout of a specific number which gives them savings in production costs. The boxes are anonymous so the buyer is never quite sure exactly what they are buying - a named ship or an unnamed ship. I read some time ago, in connection with the 1/2000 wartime series they issued, that this tactic was to encourage kids to swap models to complete their own collections. The inclusion of chewing gum was also intended as an incentive for kids. Some of the above might not be 100% correct - it's merely my views and some reported 'gossip'. I just wish they would issue kits in this 1/1250 format of the WW2 IJN ships! |
