a) Chatham Historic Dockyard - a great selection of buildings & preserved ships
b) Portsmouth Historic Dockyard - ditto
c) in London itself, HMS Belfast & the National Maritime Museum
Southampton is quicker to get to from London than Plymouth, the old town is interesting, and the Solent Sky museum has various naval aviation and flying boat exhibits.
