Although Boardhost has always offered password protection, I've never been inclined to use it for many reasons. Before attempting to install such a system, I need to go away and learn how it's actually done.
I must also confess to some degree of pessimism about the effectiveness of a password. I have been remiss in not logging where and when Alyssa makes an appearance. I just get rid of all unwanted posts. However, I have the feeling that Alyssa isn't simply random and appearances appear to be in some way selective.
I'm starting to wonder if Alyssa is getting onto Dockside via genuine members posts by piggy backing as the poster completes the number challenge and "opens the door". The number code test has been very good at stopping robot posts so we already have a decent level of protection. You will have noticed that the 1250 Board does not seem to be affected and I believe that Paul operates the same security precautions as I do.
For the time being, I would ask everyone to run regular scans on their system. I recommend HouseCall anti-virus, which uses an online method for either Windows, Mac or Android and is completely free.

And scanning for Trojans, PUPs and all the other nasty stuff, I recommend Malwarebytes, also free to download in it's basic form.

As I have a NatWest online bank account, I get the full Malwarebytes Pro version for free. Worth checking out if you're in the same position.
As I'm off to sea soon, I'll be off the radar for a week or so. MS Bolette departs Southampton on Monday afternoon and will be heading down to northern Spain. The seriously afflicted can follow my progress on marinetraffic.com. Other ship trackers are also available.
Cheers
John
