Calvin joined Portsmouth Dockyard as a Shipwright Apprentice in 1963 and shortly after completing it he headed north to Scotland to spend a few years working on the Resolution Class SSBNs before returning to Portsmouth as a Shipwright Liner where he worked untill taking early retirement in his early 60s.
Calvin was heavily into the Scouting Movement and also the Folk Scene in both England & Scotland.
His other activity was as a Morris Man and performed all over the UK & Europe, one of the highlights being the Albert Hall. Calvin and his wife Maureen loved to travel whether it be by Air, Sea, or Land. You name it i bet they have been there.
After my return from 6 years in Gibraltar Calvin saw me at a Show and thought he recognised me from work and it was the next morning he walked into my office and as they say the rest is history. So from 1980 we were regular visitors to Hamburg and Kassel where every trip was a great trip. We travelled all over the UK & Europe to buy collections and attend Mini Ship Shows as Dreadnought Models, some of which he was involved in organising.
Calvin started collecting Waterline Ship Models as a school boy so his collecting spans nearly 60 years and has to be one of the finest collections i have ever seen. Many of you reading this have met Calvin at Shows and know him to be a friendly face that knows a lot about our hobby which he will be a great loss to it.
Rest in Peace my friend.
