Let us not forget that master building is an art, where difficult choices have to be made about what to ignore, what to exaggerate and what to minimise to suit the material used to build.
At best a model in our scale can only give an impression of the original. Some master builders are far better than others in achieving this.

But you are right: basic size and shape matter - the science part. The artistic side sometimes escalates into fantasy.
