‘Grand Fleet’ is a range produced by Arrowhead Miniatures who also have a rather nice range of 1/144 scale AFVs & other vehicles. The models, in kit form, are to 1/1200 scale and are a representative selection of RN ships & submarines of the First War and after.
At the moment the range contains three battleships: ‘Warspite’, ‘Iron Duke’ and ‘KGV’, and one battlecruiser, the ‘Lion’, with the ‘Queen Mary’ coming back into production – hopefully not too far into the future. At the moment there are two cruisers: ‘Chatham’ & ‘Caroline’, with ‘Castor’ ‘forthcoming’. (Unfortunately the ‘Warrior’ is out of production). There are two destroyers, the ‘Vega’ (V&W) and ‘Mary Rose’ (Admiralty ‘M’) and four submarines – from the ‘E’, ‘H’, & ‘K’ classes, and the ‘M1’. The range is finished off by two of the small ‘M’ class monitors ‘M15’ & ‘M29’. Readers will see that, not only is there a good World War I representation, there are also the makings of an ‘inter-war’ fleet and that a number of vessels fit in to the 1939-45 period (and ever later). (NB the battleships are in WWI configuration)
‘Grand Fleet’ also has a limited range of ‘modern’ RN vessels: a Type 23 (‘Argyll’) with a Type 45 hopefully coming into production fairly soon.
I’m not going to repeat all the comments about the quality - one that hasn’t been published before is: ‘Very clean casting and crisp detail. I would say Neptun standard IF well put together’. (As someone said, the pictures on the web don’t really do justice to the finished article)
In my mind this is a good range that deserves to succeed and I encourage modellers to look at them for their collections.
‘Grand Fleet’ models are available from Arrowhead Miniatures and I also have good stocks on hand. If you want to see before you buy I will have them with me at both the Bristol & Lincoln shows.
