Thanks to all above and...
my intention is to leave the QE in original Corgi finish - planes and all. I'll then be able to send a photo or two to Corgi and tell them that this is the model they should have made! As far as it's possible to tell at the moment, it looks like it should be a straightforward job just to epoxy the two hull / deck pieces back together. It was an awkward job to do and I tried to leave a large margin for errors - it's been a while since I cut up a model with the Dremel! As a result I have quite a bit of filing to do and in spite of my best efforts there is one slip into the black waterline that needs just a little touch up too. I may have to buy another to display on its pedestals though - Anna liked it like that!
