So it is for real – TRI-ANG is back. CNC models were the major supporter of the Series 3 models and are very aware that Tri-ang collectors have nothing of the current Royal Navy except the Type 45’s. They are also aware of the relative rarity of various original series harbour accessories.
So CNC have started off with no less than FIVE of the Type 23 Frigates Life-ex and these cover ships not previously modelled in the Series 3 batches. So they will be HMSs KENT, PORTLAND, ST ALBANS, LANCASTER and ARGYLL. I am particularly pleased with HMS PORTLAND as not only was I born in sight of the island of Portland, but the ship was the very last I issued fuel to down in the Falklands before I retired from the RFA after 42 years service. HMS ARGYLL has of course a connection with those of us who live near Plymouth, although I hasten to add I am not a football supporter.
In addition there are currently 10 Accessory Packs to facilitate harbours everywhere. All are completely newly designed and mastered, painted, referenced and carded. They are all of metal except the Ocean Terminal pieces which are of heavy resin. As well as making items available again CNC have tried to get the prices in the spirit of Tri-ang. I can add that the Lifeboat Station (three pieces) comprises the ramp, the house on top and the lifeboat. We all know how easy it was to lose the damned lifeboats, so now it will be glued to the ramp – why Tri-ang never thought of that?? – it is the obvious place to park it after all.
The photo next is of the Catalogue Page as given to me by CNC and gives you all the model numbers ready for your orders!!
As mentioned the models (except the Ocean Terminal pieces) will be bubbles on cards much the same as the Series 3 models were packaged, and indeed the artwork of the packaging is very much the same as well as is evidenced in the following photo of the front of the cards for the Type 23 models. The second photo is of the reverse of the same cards.
As regards future releases the first already with a catalogue number is the ASTUTE class submarines. I have it on good authority that other contenders will include the Type 31, Type 26, TIDE class tankers (RFA) and even the HMS Queen Elizabeth. Don’t rush to ask when cos CNC doesn’t know yet. I have for my part also suggested some others, we can all dream, so how about BAY class landing ships to go with Series 3 BULWARK and ALBION and maybe Batch 3 River class patrol ships!!
So some good news for Tri-ang enthusiasts, obviously it will be great to see the models, so in the meantime let’s give CNC a good chuck up for having a go at keeping the Tri-ang dream going strong.
I have provisionally ordered one of everything for my collection.
