Merry Christmas and a Happy and healthy New Year to all...
Please can you help me identify a model and the ship it's based on?
I bought a model advertised as "1/1250 1/1200 Pioneer German supply ship WW2 by Navis. White metal model. “Very Good condition.”
I can't find info on this anywhere; However, Sammelhafen have a picture of the model as Navis No. NM-A 901A, 'Pionier', 1915 painted with camouflage. This is attached to No. NM-A901. Pionier 1917 [no camo]
So far so good. Extensive web research gave no trace of this ship and date, but there are references to
Name "Pionier"
Type Steamship [reefer]
Owner Afrikanische Frucht-Companie A. G.
Built 1933, Bremer Vulcan Verft, Germany
Tonnage 3285 BRT. - 2335 NRT.
Length 107,1 meter
Beam 13,59 meter
Draft 7,29 meter
Port Hamburg
sunk by HMS Sturgeon, 1940
The photos of this ship in 1935 are almost identical to the model apart from camouflage and 6 not 4 boats
So:
- is this the original for the model?
- are the dates on Sammelhafen wrong?
I try to write a short history of all my models with photos and tech data of the original, so clarification here would be most useful.
Good armchair sailing all
John
