Re: The view from my work bench - The price of everything
Both at Theale and Wellow a number of potential Antics and Coastlines customers did not buy models complaining that they were too expensive. I have tried to explain that almost all the new models are handmade and are more detailed than 1/700 scale commercial offerings but, as a former colleague used to say, "You can't convince them of the facts". Over the last two years, the cost of lead free pewter has risen threefold, polyurethane resin has doubled, silicone rubber for molds has doubled and some samples have passed their sell-by dates when they have been delivered and so are unusable. Some items have gone out of production and some suppliers have been taken over and are concentrating on serving big businesses rather than individual craftsmen and, worst of all, most of these items are manufactured abroad and these are all arriving late. I know that everyone tries to do their best but we all need to show that we believe that.
