I don't know if the hull is a one piece moulding or a two piece - whichever it is it might be best to cement the deck in place first to give the hull some rigidity. I note the advice above and would add that I think it's best not to try and cut on the waterline accurately. The slightest mistake and you could scrap the model. Cut below the waterline with the masking tape acting as a barrier against any slips of the saw. Once you have the bottom of the hull removed finish the model to the waterline by sanding it on a full sheet of wet'n'dry paper ( use a lot of water) on a dead flat surface like a kitchen worktop. I would recommend not sanding the cut with a hand held piece, or pad, of wet'n'dry paper.
