I would make the comment that RN was in a pretty poor state at the time - with a major manning crises in the late 1940s. At the 1953 Coronation Review there were ships in the lines which were from the Reserve Fleet - HMS Dido in particular was towed from Portsmouth - pictures show her in a state of preservation. (And one snapshot from one of the films shows [IIRC) a quadruple 2pdr - not exactly 'state of the art').
