Yes it is possible for her to be chestnut even if both parents are black. The only way to gurantee a black is for at least one parent to be Homozygous black and neither parent can carry the agouti gene (this is the gene that limits the black to the legs mane and tail like a Bay).
But since the sires mother was Chestnut that means he can not be Homozygous black. Do you know the color of the mares parents?
