Dude, DUDE! I love you.
In a non-creepy way. Because I thought I was the only one who loved this movie. And now, I'm not alone.
The Ebert excerpt captures my feelings perfectly. I'm a horror geek and a scifi fan, but not a CG lover, and so many films leave me cold by pushing me out of the story with the graphics on top of graphics on top of rendered graphics. This film kept me in its creepy grasp by, as Ebert said, making the spaces and the scenes a real as possible, organic and touchable.
And yes, it was character driven. What a concept! I cared - yes cared - about our heroes, not just because it was Mulder and Scully and they are old friends, but because they were living and breathing up there. They were complex and frustrating and compelling. It seems like this almost never happens in a big budget summer movie, especially a sequel. The plot was great, vintage Monster of The Week material with some good horrorshow visuals. I truly haven't enjoyed a film in the theater this much in some time.
Oh, and Billy Connolly! (Have you seen Fido?)
So, thanks for your testimony. I'm with you.
Meg
