I got to say I was somewhat disappointed with the movie. I was a huge fan and even used to log into IRC to chat about the episodes after they aired.
I knew and was happy that they were going to stay away from the Alien mythology. Good to remind us the X-Files was not always about ET still it seemed to have all the ingredients of a great soda pop but none of the carbonated whiz-bang fizz. To me even elements of suspense seemed like lost opportunities that were too easily defused with the characters.
I don’t know about you but I went with two other diehard fans and we all laughed out loud when later in the movie Skinner tried to assure Scully about what Mulder would do. When clearly he wouldn’t and DID NOT do that - too funny and totally in character.
Don’t get me wrong it was great to see the characters again and where they are and I will admit to more than a little admiration for the ironic elements of the story but it just did not hit it out of the park for me. I just hope it did well enough to warrant more and from the sound of it they are already working on a third so here is hoping "three’s a charm"!
