Flashback Weekend 08 Wrap-up!
Hey kids!
First off, a big thank you to all of you who came on down to see us (or up to see us whatever the case may be) at Flashback Weekend. You truly are the reason we're there and it's always so great meeting you!
Also, a big thank you to our neighbors! Yes...we were saddened when our twice annual neighbors from Tromaville wouldn't be joining us again...and we missed them still. But Chad, Geoff, Scott and John from Sinistervisions and ...I'm going to forget the names of the Zombie Production company...but these guys were great! And we had a blast hanging out with them all weekend. Guys, you were the best! Thanks for being so cool.
And of course, thanks to Mike and Mia and the Flashback staff!
We had a great time this year! Friday, the dealer's room was open later than ever before, till 9pm, so that was nice. It seemed like many more dealers were open on Friday night and there was more traffic with the longer hours. We mostly spent Friday hanging out at the table and getting to know our friends next door.
And of course, when mentioning them I have to mention the always great to talk to Joe Sena from Fear Werx. Such a great guy and we always appreciate his comments and support! And of course very cool ZERO zombie apparrel (many of you probably remember some of it from our X-mas episode.)
Saturday was early, but great. Holly celebrated her recent "21-ness" and everyone I think benefited from that, lol. That and her leather ourfit.
Dementia, Ms. super celebrity that she is, was one of the celebrity judges of the big Zombie Pin-Up Contest along with Reggie Bannister (how cool is that?!?) and last year's winner. And of course...Kitty. (you can see Kitty in our pictures album.) So Dementia got to see some hot chicks and some great zombie make-up, and spend a bit of quality time with Reggie.
Jeff (Zontar) and I got to talk with Don Coscarelli many times over the weekend as we were doing some videography of many of the Phantasm events for him. Couldn't be a nicer guy. Seriously. He was just awesome. And I got to mention my love for Beastmaster as well. I now feel complete. But yeah, he was just so cool and so great with everyone.
I got to "see" Elvira which was wonderful...but I didn't get a chance to talk or even really be near to her. Oh, well. She had a huuuge line though. I wanted her to sign page 4 of the Chicago Horror Hosts book that just came out (as her show and WOWMS are mentioned in the same sentence...more to explain why we're not in the book, but still) but i didn't get a chance.
Holly, Dementia and I got to talk with Caroline Willaims from TCM 2 a bit at the VIP party Sat night and she was great...and still looks so much like she did in TCM 2.
Sunday brought a brief, but memorable little chat with Reggie Bannister in the elevator and then on the wrong floor of the hotel as he and I went to the wrong place and found our way back upstairs. He had the coolest bust of his make-up job from THE RAGE that Robert Kurtzman from KNB (a surprise guest) gave him that weekend.
Also, while Jeff and I were getting ready to tape something for Don Coscarelli, we had a very pleasant and cool chat with Roy Frumkes who did the documentary DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD (about Dawn of the Dead) and DREAM OF THE DEAD (about Land of the Dead) and also the writer of Street Trash. He was cool, and had some great stuff to say about the two docs. And I got to gush my love for Street Trash. Also, the night before, Don had brought with him a clip from 1978 when both he and George Romero were guest on Tom Snyder's TOMORROW SHOW and it was brilliant. They showed it before the Phantasm screening. So we chatted about that. Very cool guy.
As for George himself. Hey, he's the man, as always. I talked with him when he was at the FW a cpl years ago, but didn't get a chance this weekend. But Dementia got a great pic with her and him and got him to sign her NOTLD dvd. She was thrilled and esctatic...the movie being super influential in her life.
And of course, Sunday also brought a fantastic visit from our dear friends the Bone Jangler and Nocturna. Which was just wonderful. Look for a crossover event sometime in the future!
I think that's about it. Everyone was great and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The cast of NOTLD there for the 40th anniv. seemed genuinely touched and moved by the response their film gets and the impact it's had on both their and all of our lives. And the Phantasm cast was just as wonderful to meet.
Oh, and Danielle Harris. Didn't get a chance to talk to her this year either. But I will still say. Cutest. Girl. In. The . World. Period.
So, yeah, a good time was had by all. It was great for me, Tom, Dementia, Holly, Jeff, Greg and Eric to meet those of you who came to see us and stopped by and we had a great time with our neighbors. (we were almost in our own little world behind the Romero autograph line.)
Thanks again to everyone who stopped by and as always, thanks for watching! And to the cute girl who took the I love Undead Johnny button and came back for my autograph...you made my day! lol.
Remember, everyday is Halloween!
PS: New episode coming soon...probably Aug. 8. I know...it seems like a long time. But with Flashback, it kinda puts a cpl week delay into the works. Also, the 3rd episode of the CHANNEL 666 PRIMETIME MOVIE which would've aired in the next week or so, is no longer. Some of it's commercial parodies, sketches will be used over the next few episodes. But the next episode will be the return of the WORLD OF THE WEIRD MONSTER SHOW and Undead Johnny and Dementia, so rejoice! We've got some great stuff coming up (and some great movies too, by the way.) More details soon!
Thanks!
Johnny
