Tina,Since it's your first year I would keep the clump together and divide in the spring. This will help it through the winter.I have been growing bananas for many years in my zone 7 across from PHL Int'l.You can use a standard box of Miracle Grow. I fertilze once a week one scoop per two gallons and dispense 1-2 feet from the base.Fruiting may take a few years but I have so many plants that are 2 to 3 years old.I have Golden Rhino Horn trees that that started fruiting in July. This is the weather the trees like 85 days, 70 nights with humidity.I wish you luck with your Basjoo.
