The TMMCC has put together a superb line-up in both Solos and Sidecars for the Lester Goodwin Memorial meeting on 18th May at their Collier Street circuit.Without doubt this is the best starting line-up seen at the Boarded Circuit since the 2006 Bonfire Burnup.
As expected, the 500cc European Sidecars have turned out in force to pay tribute to the memory of one of the great champions, and friend Lester Goodwin. No less than nine European crews are at the meeting, including current European Champions William & Nathalie Matthijssen from Holland.Along with fellow Europeans Marco Hundsrucker,Patric Metzger,Willfred Detz,Marc Detz,Lund Stinus, and former European Champions Karl Keil and Sven Holstein.
Some real thrilling action is guaranteed with the best of British crews on home soil trying to put one over on their European counterparts.Shaun Harvey/Danny Hogg will be on the top of their game for sure,as will father & daughter partnership of Nick & Abi Radley.16 year old Abi now looking like she's settling into the role of passenger very well. This ultra smooth circuit should bring out the best from them both.
Tony Cook and new female passenger Emily Coglan could well spring a surprise,as could Scott Dunn,Wayne Read,or Chris Salisbury, who all love the Tonbridge track.
Will it be a day for the Brits,or will the Europeans take all three places on the podium at the end of the day.The one thing you can expect is fireworks,as every heat looks like a final.
British Masters Solo Champion,Glen Philips will be out to show his win was no fluke. And Glen has had some fantastic races round the boarded circuit in recent years and is doing really well on the European circuit also.He faces some stiff opposition in the form of recent Roden winner and current Dutch No 2 Dirk Fabriek. With the "Screen machine" also in this top Solo line-up,the crowd are sure to be in for some great entertainment. The first appearance for some time of Jason Bunyan as well.Only injuries at key times in his racing career stopping Jason from fulfilling his true star potential. Two riders i'm sure the crowd will be eager to see on the big Tonbridge circuit, will be local star Martyn Sturgeon, fast rising up the ranks, and on new machinery. And the exciting Tim Nobes, also on new and very fast equipment. With a whole host of other stars like Robert Baumann (GER),Charlie Saunders,Mitch Godden,Eddie Kennet,Markus Eibl(GER),Richard Smith,Henry Van Der Steen(NL),and Jamie Rodgers also out to make a name for themselves, this could well turn out to be one of the closest and best fought competitions ever held at the "Action Track".
The 1,000cc RH Sidecar competition looks almost like a British Masters line-up.Local hero Rob Wilson with passenger Terry Saunters will be looking to add yet another Collier Street trophy to his vast collection. This certainly will not be easy,as current Masters Champions Colin Blackbourn/Paul Whitelam jnr and former Masters Champions Paul Whitelam,Gary Jackson, all in with a chance of taken the spoils. Mark Cossar now proving himself to be a force to be reckoned with around the famous boarded circuit.Who can forget the Symon Wall meeting last year, with Cossar almost snatching the win on the last bend.Throw in Myles Simmons/Kevin Woodley,Rod & Gareth Winterburn,Richard Thomas/Phil Stoneman,Matt Tyrrell/Shaun Yates, and many more, could you even pick the six crews for the final?
With the beer tent and live band on the Saturday night. It should be a great atmosphere all weekend.
Lesters two children Josh and Courtney will lead the parade of riders.Followed by a minutes silence in honor of Lester Goodwin.Riders will then all be given a memorial medal.
First practice session will be from 10 - 10:45am.
Break for Church. Then second practice session from 12 - 12:30pm.
First race 1pm.
Duncan Tolhurst will do a slow lap of honor before the Finals.
