I Have wrestled sense I was four and I am a junior in high school now. I grew up in the aau & usa wrestling family. From a high school wreslters point of view and this is just my opinion, Freestyle wrestling has changed so much it isn't even close to folkstyle wresling. To me the point system and six point matches are whats wrong. I mean you barely get wrestling and because you shoot on your aponant and he/she barely turns you and your foot steps out of bounse he/she gets 3 points.I am trying to figure out why we went to this point system. Maybe someone on this blog could help me understand why I need to wrestle aau freesyle other than the mat time. Wrestling this style of wrestling is disappointing to me.I would rathers wrestle folksyle in the off season than freestyle and maybe thats yor answer for the decline in wrestlers at least in the high school level. I have been to a couple tounaments this season and both the tournaments I went to and have wrestled in my whole life were not attended very well at all infact I couldn't believe. The Civic Center use to be packed for a State tournament or even the Joe McCarthy tournament. It sure isn't that way anymore.
