Luckily for you, sarcasm is like a second language to me. I accept your invitation.
First off, that figure of $8.50/year is B.S. and you know it. That's per $100,000 of appraised value. A home on the Mesa, in the same neighborhood as City College, will generally appraise at around ten times that amount. So if you have a nice house in SB, expect to pay an additional $85/year in property taxes on top of the $10,000 or so you're already paying. That is, unless you're old as dirt and lucky enough to have bought your house before Santa Barbara started going urban.
Second, if these are all "needed renovations", why do I see plans to to put up a new building that will take up the entire courtyard where commencement is currently held? I really like that courtyard. I would like it even more if they hadn't paved it over in the first place.
Shouldn't these things be put to the voters separately? What if I support the renovations but oppose the new building? I guess in that case I would have no choice but to reject Measure V.
