British Queen Alexander was very much like her with regards to King George V and Princess Victoria; Grand Duchess Olga was suppose to play that role for MF. Both Queen and Empress were quite selflish in this respect and neither Queen Mary nor Empress Alexandra had it easy in that way. In England Queen Victoria called the shots and therefore Alexandra was check with regards to the future king while the Princess became a glorified maid to her mother. Olga escaped only during the war, divorced her homosexual husband and married a commoner.
Insofar I see a certain responsibility of the Dowager Empress in the education of her son; of course that is not to say that she bears the whole responsibility.
I believe that all the Romanovs did not really understood the situation: the Russian people did not want individual charity but systematic relief and improvement of their situation as a right, not as imperial "gift".
