Yes, I think your words are very wise. On a personal level he was properly a very likeable man. But he personified a system, he wanted to eb the absolute ruler and had to bear responsibility for it.
I disagree that he would have made a good constitutional ruler, because he would have to embrace the essence of constitutional rule and he never did. Still after 1905 be believed and acted as if he was an absolute ruler.
In the end I feel he would have been better off as rich landed aristocrat living on his estate.
