In many ways, she reminds me of her 16th century Tudor namesake,Elizabeth I of England. Both of them:
1. Shared the same name and regnal number.
2. Were the only surviving daughters of a powerful and feared predecessor.
3. Came to the throne after many intrigues and attempts to displace them.
4. Imprisoned rival climants to their throne.
5. Remained unmarried but had numerous male lovers and/or favourites.
6. Were highly intelligent and capable rulers although often capricious and impulsive.
7. Became highly popular with their people.
8. Became the personification of their nations.
9. Re-established their nations as great powers on the European scene by war and diplomacy.
10.Enjoyed lengthy reigns to a greater or lesser degree (greater in the English case).
11.Were succeeded by a foreign-born ruler (although in Russia's case, the name of the dynasty was retained).
