Nicholas is very old - and has his views. Plain and simple. But the next generation has less of a voice in the dispute because they are so scattered.
Maria is recognized as the head of the house by the church, certainly in Russia, and by various royal houses. She attends some events, but appears not to be close to her Leiningen and PRussian cousins. Her cousin, Friedrich Wilhelm, wanted to marry her half-sister, Helene, in the early 60s, but Prince Louis Ferdinand (who was married to Marie's aunt Kira) said no because Helene was not equal. MInd you, Helene is the one with the money -lots of money through her American father, Sumner Moore KIrby ... and I read (a few years ago) that Maria and Helene had a falling out, so Maria can no longer depend on her half-sister's trust fund.
Maria does not get a lot of press - and one can assume that most people are not interested in the heir to the non=existant Russian throne (ie the press - although she does get mentioned in English language Russian press from time to time) .. and I clip the stuff and file
