if this board were only for things that help it would be blank.
i didn't want to call what i have been on, "dates," but to call them something else would have required quite a bit of explanation that i wasn't interested in providing. so in that respect, i haven't been on a "date" in a long time either. i do remember it though as it was that bad.
while i won't say that meeting someone from the internet is a complete waste of time, as i have done it, it seems to be a very similar pool of people (shocker) and statistically (nerd alert!) that makes sense. most people are idiots, most people just want to hook up, and most people aren't worth your time.
it is more convenient and it offers the opportunity to get to know someone (or at least a portion of them) a bit better than meeting them might, but it seems that most people do not take advantage of those potential positives. either they want to meet right away (in which case just go pick someone up at a bar/club/brothel) or they brush you off after a brief pseudo-conversation. so either one of you is really boring or they just want instant chemistry, via text, and with no context.
i guess all of that makes me seem like a quite experienced internet dater. that is not the case but i've thought about it and discussed the phenomenon with others and done it a few times. the results seem only slightly better than if you met someone at a random pub, which is unfortunate.
