This is late.. but one of the reasons I write is that I feel like thoughts are basically unique. I wouldn't say that I feel that I am adding much to others' lives or to the world at large by putting words out there, rather that I enjoy reading what other people have put out there — for whatever reason they do it — and I feel somewhat of an obligation to reciprocate.
That's not really it. I don't have that idea in mind when writing or even when thinking about writing about something, it's just a hindsight thought that fits.
I do like the idea of having things down, somewhere, because if I wanted to I could delete it all. (Granted, it would exist for quite a while on the internet, but it is not like it is an important site and eventually it would be fragmented or lost entirely.) What I cannot do is to go back and recreate lines of thought or feeling. Even though I like to think of myself as minimalist, I think that I would rather have too much than not enough.
My guess is that I could add to this list every few weeks for a long time as to why I do it.
