Yes, I have used Cycles with great success with backers. You have to do more work to get some of the earlier sounds in there that others might not have to do, but it will be worth it in the end. My worst backer ever was done with therapy in 1 1/2 years using Cycles.
I would start with the Cycles Guidelines and go through each of those questions to decide on your targets. You will need to start with final /t/ and it will be hard at first, but will facilitate the initial /t , d/ at the same time. Do not target final /d/.
