I am trying the "open big" method to elicit /k/ with the assistance of a puppet. I have started by having him tell the puppy puppet "open a little" now "open big" in front of a mirror. Then he and I each take a turn. This has really helped me to get him to understand opening his mouth wider (He has autism.) and made him more willing, but he still does not open very wide.
However, he is tactile defensive and won't let me near his mouth. So, I am stuck at this point. I've tried the water, coughing, laying on our backs, tongue depressor, spoon, toothbrush, etc. Every attempt starts with an open mouth and goes to the /t/ position.
Any tips for when a child is hypersensitive. His OT is seeing him for the sensitivity issues.
