You are EXACTLY right! Skip the lateral for now, unless you can get a good airflow when practicing /ts/ if she needs it. You would use your lateral /s/ technique here by having her think you're only using the /t/ and letting the air out. I usually start with this blend (if she needs this sound) for a child that is lateral. If you can get some good productions with the airflow in the middle, stick with it. If not, skip it.
This will help your caseload a lot. Glad you are using it!
