A four year old that I have worked with for two school years (who started as pretty much unintelligible) continues to be unable to make a /k or g/ sound. I have never elicited either sound even in isolation. She is also very hypernasal. I made a voice referral and she was seen by an ENT. The ENT's report stated that there were no physical abnormalities and that she had normal mobility. However, the mother reported that during the nasodoscopy the ENT never had the child produce sound and that she never spoke during the evaluation. If the structures were still, how could the ENT know if velophargneal closure occurred? My question is why would this cognitively intacted child who mastered all other sounds not be able to produce a k or g even in isolation? I would take any suggestions for eliciting the sounds or ideas of a direction to take therapy??
