Hi,
I have a four year old boy who I have been seeing for a year now. He was previously unable to make bilabial sounds so we worked for a while on those. He is mostly able to make them now although he often continues to produce them with his teeth on his bottom lip. Most of his remaining errors are assimilation errors, regressive type and vowel errors. I gave him the moving across syllables test and took a spontaneous language sample but there is really not a pattern to when he exhibits these errors (that I have found so far). His annual review is coming up this week and I'm not sure where to go with him. Would you target one specific movement sequence at a time? Should I continue to work on words beginning with a bilabial sound since he still is not producing it with his lips together consistently? (Sidenote- if the child produces what sounds like a bilabial sound but with his teeth on lower lip, would you score it correct on the moving across syllables test?) Are there other programs or methods people use to treat assimilation kids? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
