Hi fellow SLPs. I will be starting to work with a 3 yr old boy with autism with very limited language. I am starting to see him individually for speech for half hour sessions (starting off.) I've observed the child scream uncontrollably when changes happen. I want to try to keep him at the table for 10 minutes (then perhaps floor time for another 10 minutes) and then back to the table for the final 10 minutes. I will have his favorite books and toys ready to use. Am I on the right track? Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how to keep the 3 yr old's attention for a limited time? (especially at a table) He will just wander around if I let him do his thing so he needs boundaries. Please note that his expressive is v. limited but cognitively he is fine. THANKS SO MUCH !!!! I appreciate any feedback.
