Another thought - I had a parent who came in who already had been looking into autism before she came to me. Some parents already have these concerns in their heads. By doing as Kristina suggested, and starting by talking about behaviour (I start with 'what did you see?'), you can open up a conversation that may give the parents a chance to express what they think may be going on, knowing that you will listen to them and have valid, practical suggestions about who else can help.
