If you haven't tried this-- try adding a visual cue each time the child or you or mom uses "I" for awhile - like the sign for "I" - or whatever you all decide on - we use the little finger up, with the other fingers in a loose type fist and then moving the arm/hand - with little finger up - towards the chest/heart while saying "I___ ______."
