I have had little ones on my caseload in regular pre-k classes with limited speech. I talk to the teachers, provide basic pictures for communication and keep in touch with them. Early on I go in and repeat anything the child is saying so they get an idea that the child CAN communicate and what it sounds like. These teachers have been great and figure thing out. I touch base with them at least weekly but After the first couple of weeks I make it a point to have an indepth conversation to see where they could use communication help-and provide strategies, pictures, wtc. It depends on the child how well they will do...but even my shyest and worst apraxic child blossomed-he talked mostly to his teacher but that was ok...the next year he started talking to his peers and by the end of the year there was no difference in how much he talked!
