I definitely can relate to your difficulties with this child! I have been working with a child since he was 18 months old for EI and we tried working on the floor but he would be inconsolable without his mother. She and I decided to try working at the table with his strapped into his booster seat (sounds mean and he cried but he eventually got over this). He was unable to undo the strap on his own. I also would play with the toys I brought with enthusiasm and gusto without looking at him since that seemed to make his screaming worse. He eventually wanted to join in and would spontaneously vocalize. The key would be to work with the parent.
