I am seeing a very challenging 26 month old little boy in EI right now and really need some ideas/opinions. His behavior has prevented us from really making any progress. He has absolutely no attention span to any activity. He enjoys trains and cars and that is the only time I can get him to imitate or say anything, and even then it's only on occasion. I really don't like using trains/cars a lot though, because I think they are really limiting. He isn't interested in anything else. He will play with toys for a few seconds (even his trains) and out of nowhere just destroys everything. He is on a waiting list for OT and is having a behavior eval done soon. I'm wondering if I should ask for a DT to do an eval also. I've tried everything with this little boy and I can't get him to attend to anything. We've tried games involving movement, sensory activities...I've tried both giving him choices between things and just following his lead...He just won't attend to anything and doesn't play appropriately. Receptive language is very good, it's only expressive that the family is concerned about. He won't imitate/label anything except for trains and cars...these are also the only toys he has at home. I just don't know what to do. Today he crashed into me with a stroller and hit me in the head with a train track....I need some help!
