I am seeing a 32 month old little boy through EI who is showing some signs of apraxia, but I feel like it could possibly be more of a phono issue, and I'd like some opinions! He is also seeing another speech therapist through a local clinic. He is able to produce many sounds (p,b,m,n,t,d,etc) and vowel sounds, but there is some groping at times. He can produce CV and some CVCV combinations (like 'baby'). I have been working on getting him to produce CVC combinations (final sounds), as well as two syllable words with different consonant sounds (i.e. 'bunny', etc.). His mom told me that his other therapist is working more on vowel sounds with him and alternating the vowel sounds. He can say vowels in isolation perfectly, but has a hard time alternating between two (i.e. EEEE-IIII) if that makes sense. I haven't really been doing that and am now wondering if I'm way off! I was feeling like we didn't need to work on specific sounds or vowels because he can say them in consonant-vowel combinations. The breakdown seems to be final sounds, as well as the two syllable words. He is beginning to combine the words that he does use, and uses "I want" phrases very clearly. I am a new clinician and am always second guessing myself so I'd like to hear what you all think! Thanks!
