I have been seeing a 5-year-old boy for about six months. We've been using Cycles to clear up a lot of error patterns. However, now that his consonants are beginning to clear up, I've noticed that he seems HYPOnasal. He already had his adenoids removed (over a year ago). But now I'm really noticing how little nasal resonance he uses. For instance, for the word "lamp," he will say "lap." I've noticed that he's able to use "m" and "n" in simple CVC words. However, when these nasals are part of a blend (/mp/, /nd/), he can't seem to do them. At first I thought that this is evidence of "cluster reduction," but he is currently able to do all other sound blends. Does any one know of some great ideas for working on INCREASING nasality? Is this common? Thanks for any input!
