Otoacoustic emissions screenings are just one measure of ear function, not necessarily a true test of hearing acuity. You need an audiometer to actually screen their hearing.
I believe you need to work on getting a good seal, but keep in mind that almost 50% of people with hearing acuity in the "normal" range have absent OAEs.
