I have a couple preschoolers on my caseload with various disabilities (e.g. down syndrome) who can usually be understood at the one word level, but can't typically be understood beyond that. Some of these kids are able to use 2-3 word phrases/sentences (although you can't understand them). Should I continue to work on expanding their utterances? Sometimes I have a really difficult time targeting articulation because they have a lot of sounds in isolation, but they just have trouble putting them together into words/longer utterances. Plus, they have cognitive issues, which makes it even more difficult! Any help would be greatly appreciated! I feel I am stuck.
