I "inherited" a 3 year old. He is always seeking for attention (examples: look at my shoe, asks "whats that" to EVERYTHING. Look at my finger. Look at me. I'm tired.), VERY easily distracted, jumps and gives me hugs and kisses every time he replies my question, and CHATTY.
Even though turn-taking was not a goal for him, I have been working on that indirectly (example: my turn, your turn). But, hah! Progress is slow.
So I was attempting Cycles Approach with him and was doing audit. bomb. He is always talking. When he colors, he talks. When he plays with Play-Doh or toys, he talks. I have to interrupt him sometimes and tell him, "oooo. shhhhh. be really quiet and listen." And 2 seconds later, he talks.
Progress have been slow with him. I see him once a week for 30 minutes. In reality, I probably work with him for less than good minutes after all the redirecting back to task.
I am going to try the egg-timer thing the next time I see him.
Cycles is quite a structured approach. I am quite a structured person. And I am to my wits end with this kid because he is so over the place.
I guess, I want to know what would you do?
And I guess, I want some encouragement.
