I am seeing a 2.3 yr old EI client with Down Syndrome. He is very stubborn and will not produce any targeted sounds or word approximations upon request. I cannot figure out what motivates him. He will just give up if I withhold toys/food. What can I do to motivate him??
Additionally, he will occasionally and very inconsistently produce an entire phrase spontaneously such as "Go away" or "Over there" very clearly. This is just amazing to me because he won't IMITATE one word! I'm baffled and feel terrible that we have made such little progress. Anyone have any suggestions?
