Gossip
Proverbs 26:20 NIV: Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.
Iīm not a gossip. Or am I? Do I quietly go to one friend to whisper about another? Do I share a concern although I know it was something that was told in confidence? "A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret" (Pr. 11:13). How many morsels of gossip are disguised as prayer concerns? "The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a manīs inmost parts" (Pr. 18:8). We hear something that we just canīt believe about someone, and it is so very tempting to tell someone else-expecting to see astonishment that matches our own. Itīs hard to say exactly why gossip entices so many. Yet, we are drawn to a whisper we hear, and so very often compelled to share the news. If so, let us share the news first with God. Let our concerns be taken first to God, so that He may keep us honest regarding our true intent.
