I was married to one and yes, they are very scary.
The Lord saw fit to deliver me from him and even though he has been dead since 1994, there are flash backs occasionally of the horrors of being under his control. The problem with dealing with a psycopath is they are able to manipulate everything into convincing you that they are not the problem, everyone else is.
