Nobody knows yet who is the man to beat. Gene Rychlak has made it clear he believes he's the best power repper. Kennelly has had problems with repping or so I hear. The bar goes up but starts sinking fast on Kennelly if the spotters don't grab it fast. It makes repping big weight too hard for him. Maybe that's why he tries to short stroke and bounce his reps.

: Kennelly is a putz. It's just like this, he
: chickened out because he knew Rychlak and
: Mendelson would both kick his ass.

: After positively confirming his
: participation Ryan Kennelly evidently
: withdrew yesterday. The Powerlifting
: Supershow is respectful of Ryan’s lifting
: decisions. Unfortunately Ryan’s
: contradicting himself about his decision.
:
: On June 30th, Ryan Kennelly says in an
: interview on a streaming audio internet
: show, when asked if he’s going to be at the
: Europa:
:
: “Yeah I definitely plan on coming down there
: I plan on being part of the bench press
: thing there.”
:
: On July 23rd, in a scripted interview at
: HOP’s blog Kennelly says:
:
: “I never said that I was lifting there for
: sure and this whole two rep max rule is news
: to me too. A powerlifting contest bench is
: about who can bench the most weight for one
: good rep. Isn’t it?”
:
:
: June 30th Kennelly says he “definitely”
: plans to be a part of the Europa “bench
: thing” publicly indicating his commitment
: and that he had full knowledge the bench
: press event was a variation of the
: conventional bench press format. Then three
: weeks later Kennelly contradicts himself
: when he says he never said he was going or
: had knowledge of the format.
:
: Does Kennelly expect certain fellow lifters
: to not mention the fact he discussed the
: format with them as early as May of this
: year?, Or when he stated “I can hit 900 for
: 2 reps and blow everyone away” and “I’m
: definitely coming to bench at the Europa and
: meet my idol Ken Lain” “Meeting Ken Lain
: will be the pinnacle of my career.”
: Kennelly believed Rychlak would be a no
: show. The timing of this is telling of what
: really happens. After Gene Rychlak let it
: be known he had purchased his plane ticket,
: Kennelly drops out.
:
: This begs the question of how much the
: confirmed competition of Gene Rychlak and
: Scot Mendelson in this format has Kennelly
: two stepping.
:
: On to the SHOW OF BENCH PRESS POWER, Gene
: Rychlak and Scot Mendelson reconfirm their
: courage of coming to the Superlifting Pro
: Bench Press. Gene is very confident of
: himself with this format. Scot would rather
: go for a 1-rep max, however both gentlemen
: are coming to show everyone in attendance
: their spectacular power with the iron. This
: will be the first time spectators have had
: the chance to see the Greats bench press for
: repetitions with mind boggling weights.
:
: There is much talk of the ferocious battle
: developing between Jessie Kellum and Jason
: Coker at 198. We are almost sure to see a
: 700 bench press by under-200 bodyweight
: lifters performed for repetitions! Word has
: it they might first attempt 750 for 2 in
: their battle to be the top Superlifting Pro
: Bench Press Champion!!!
:
: The quality of the fantastic lifters will be
: pleasing to hardcore lifter as well as the
: bodybuilding fan. At 12 noon the
: Superlifting Pro Bench Press is at Prime
: Time at the Dallas Convention Center in Ed
: and Betty Pariso’s Europa Super Show Sports
: Expo.
