I found another AL&W Sizzler the other day, which seems a little different than the regular ones. The Sizzler was sold by AL&W in the mid-30's and '40's but is usually always found nickel-plated (or is that chrome?). This one is copper and has a mother-of-pearl propellor on it.
As a point of interest, the Sizzler was invented by Hamiltonian Caspar Ostler, in 1936, and registered with the Canadian Industrial Design office. It seems he might have told a little white lie on his application by saying he had never seen a lure similar in design. The Biff Bait Co. of Milwaukee was selling a very similar lure that was patented in 1924 for them, by Albert Bayer.
Theirs was also nickel-plated and came in two sizes.
