Yeah, next species I wish to try is Rhapidophyllum. I have several types of habitats on my place so I want to experiment with them being protected vs. unprotected.
As for those gardenias...they were unnamed. Got them at Lowe's. According to the tag, they're supposed to be hardy to +10F. Mine did really well with an inverted pot then covered in snow. I also have a "frostproof" gardenia but I got it so late in the year that I didn't put it out. It's in a pot waiting til spring. Got the frostproof gardenia at home depot. Apparently there are one or two other varieties of hardy gardenia..can't remember the names offhand. Do a google search on hardy gardenia and you'll see the other variety names. I think if folks are wiling to protect them (easy to do since they're fairly low growing) you guys should have no problems. You might get some more info on the gardenias from the folks at the hardy palm board. They probably know a heck of a lot more about 'em than I do.
